This is a scripted conversation between the specialist, Dr. Rachelefsky, and the referring primary care physician, Dr. Boca. It portrays a typical exchange about patients like Dan. Listen to the discussion to gain additional insight into his case and the available treatment options.
Dr. Boca:
Thank you for taking my call today, Dr. Rachelefsky. I really appreciate it.
Dr. Rachelefsky:
It is my pleasure. What can you tell me about Dan and his asthma?
Dr. Boca:
Dr. Rachelefsky, it is an interesting case. Dan is 19 years old, and I recently saw him for a physical. He has been using a short-acting
ß2-agonist (LABA) for wheezing since the age of 13. When I saw him, he complained of chest tightening and wheezing several times a month, with nocturnal flare-ups every week or every other week. These nocturnal disturbances are making it difficult for him to get up in the mornings, perform at his job, and exercise. It is really causing him a lot of stress.
